Welcome to the Tetlit Zheh Child Centre website. The Aboriginal Head Start Centre is located in Fort Mcpherson, Northwest Territories, Canada. Our community is located on the banks of the Mackenzie River about xx kilometers from Inuvik the regional center within the Beaufort Delta Region. Our program is funded through the Tl'oondih Healing Society, a Gwich'in organization established in the community.

Our center first opened its doors in May 1997. There are approximately 16 children enrolled in our half-day afternoon program from September to June each year.

We employ four staff members to deliver and administer the Aboriginal Head Start program: Julie Anne Koe, Child Care Worker 1; Kathy Nerysoo, Child Care Worker 1, Emily Robert, Child Care Worker 2; and Hannah Alexie, Gwich'in Language Instructor.

Dene and Metis children learn about the Gwich'in culture. English and Gwich'in are languages that are spoken in the center. Twice a year, the children visit our Culture Camp where we introduce the Gwich'in language and participate in cultural activities each day.
